PROGRAM BACKGROUND:
The conflict affected communities of Haute-Kotto and Vakaga prefectures are in dire need of basic social services. Government capacity to provide basic social services including health, nutrition and protection to the communities is dwindling. International Medical Corps with the support from ECHO and DFID provides an integrated, multisectoral programme to the internally displaced people, returnees and local communities of Vagaka and Haute Kotto. The programme focuses on building capacity of local community structures as well as providing primary health care, maternal and child health care, therapeutic and supplementary nutrition services, HIV/AIDS prevention, health education, mental health services and psychosocial support, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, and hygiene promotion activities in 5 clinics in Vakaga and 7 clinics in Haute-Kotto as well sites 20 sites reached by mobile clinics.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Psychiatrist Trainer is required to train and supervise PHC staff on mental health service delivery per WHO mhGAP Intervention Guidelines in selected area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide training in the identification and management of priority mental health conditions to general health staff in line with WHO mhGAP Intervention Guidelines (WHO mhGAP-IG) and in coordination with national authorities and the IMC Technical Unit.
  2. Identify and train local CHWs/volunteers for training in community outreach, case finding and mental health promotion
  3. Provide mental health and psychosocial support consultations and services along with health staff as needed
  4. Ensure completion and analysis of pre post knowledge tests and on the job supervision checklists as well as IMC mental health PHC integration checklists
  5. Ensure that WHO essential psychotropic medications are available at health facilities
  6. Take responsibility for collection and reporting of mental health project data including HMIS reporting and patient outcomes (e.g. functioning, satisfaction with services)
  7. Actively lead or participate in coordination mechanisms (e.g. Health, general coordination, potential MHPSS coordination group) and advocate for principles of IASC MHPSS guidelines
  8. Assist with hiring of national staff as needed
  9. Implement the project in line with IMC and global MHPSS standards and guidelines and closely coordinate with IMCs Health Technical Unit Global Mental Health Advisor for development and review of training materials, documentation and reports.
  10. Participate and contribute in the case a multi-sectorial rapid needs assessment in order to identify and assess the humanitarian needs in the following sectors: health (including mental health and reproductive health), nutrition, WASH, and Protection.
    Qualifications:Requirements:
  11. Psychiatrist with 3+ years experience working on MHPSS programs, preferably in humanitarian settings
  12. Training and supervision experience required
  13. Strong organizational and supervisory skills
  14. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments
  15. Ability to work in difficult environment under very basic living conditions
  16. Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources
