JOB SUMMARY:

GRI is currently seeking short term Gender Advisors for the DFID-funded La Pepiniere program in DRC. The objective of La Pepiniere will be to economically empower adolescent girls through innovations focused on Kinshasa and Kananga (in Kasai Occidental) provinces.

The project will have three different components:

  1. Learning (to establish baselines and situational analysis of the reality of adolescent girls in DRC, and to generate and disseminate evidence about what works to economically empower adolescent girls);
  2. Innovation (to create a physical space for participatory research and sharing lessons/knowledge, and to fund up to 12 small-scale pilot projects to grow evidence about what works to economically empower adolescent girls.);
  3. Capacity (to improve the capacity of DFID staff, partner and the Government of DRC to effectively program for women and girls, particularly adolescent girls).

GRI is seeking French-fluent gender advisors with expertise in the following areas:

· Women’s Economic Empowerment experience

· Experience working with Adolescent Girls

· Youth Skills Development

· Education/Training

· Employment Creation

· Market Development

· Mobile Money

· Entrepreneurship

· Franchising models

Overnight travel within the DRC will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Masters in agriculture, rural development, economic development, or similar required; PhD preferred.

· Ten (10) years experience developing and managing agricultural and rural economic development programs for women; 15 years preferred.

· Additional experience with small business development and access to finance preferred.

· Prior experience with strategic development required. Prior experience conducting quantitative and qualitative assessments required

· Fluency in English and French required.

· Prior experience working on DFID programs preferred.

· Excellent management and administrative skills.

· High level of interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with all levels of staff, foreign government personnel, members of donor organizations, funders and policy makers

· Self-motivated and well organized.

· Ability to work collaboratively, supportively, and respectfully with others.

· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

· Flexibility and willingness to travel to difficult environments to complete program assignments.
