Overview
Promundo-Great Lakes is a Rwandan NGO recently formed in partnership with Promundo-US, an international non-governmental organization dedicated to gender equality and violence prevention. The Living Peace project will be hiring two Provincial Coordinators—one for North Kivu and one for South Kivu—who will be based in Goma and Bukavu, respectively. The positions will be responsible for implementation in the province of a new multi-year initiative to engage men as allies in gender-based violence (GBV) prevention in Eastern DRC. The positions will include liaising and coordination with local NGO partners at the provincial level who are part of the project, logistical support for NGO partners, supervision and support of facilitators and campaign activities, and travel to the field to monitor program activities. Both coordinators will report to the Living Peace Project Director based in Goma.
Duties include:
Supporting a team of fieldwork assistants, facilitators and technical specialists to carry out trauma recovery and GBV prevention groups, community campaigns and community activism
Liaising with local NGO partners as relevant, including representing the project at key events and meetings when needed
Managing budgets and expenses related to the project to ensure that activities remain within budget and according to the grant agreement
Monitoring project implementation to ensure that activities proceed along the agreed timetable, and results are being documented
Liaise with designated implementing organization staff
Security planning and management.
About Promundo
Founded in Brazil in 1997, Promundo works internationally to engage men and boys in advancing gender equality and preventing violence. Promundo’s independently registered NGOs in the US, Brazil and Portugal collaborate to conduct high-quality formative, population-based research; develop and conduct impact evaluations, scale-up gender transformative interventions; and carry out national and international advocacy to achieve gender equality and prevent violence. Promundo has been active in the Great Lakes region since 2010 conducting research and developing and evaluating interventions promoting gender equality with key local partners.
Promundo also serves as global co-Chair and Latin American coordinator of the MenEngage Alliance, a global network of NGOs and UN agencies working to engage men and boys in gender equality. Promundo-US, a separate legal entity, coordinates technical assistance outside of Brazil, carries out advocacy globally and supports Promundo activities and fundraising in Brazil, and coordinates the global MenCare Campaign. Promundo-Great Lakes was recently registered in Rwanda to coordinate Promundo’s activities both in Rwanda as well as regionally in the Great Lakes region. It is a separately registered Rwandan NGO according to the registration requirements of the Rwandan government. It has an independent board of directors and follows all requirements for NGOs in Rwanda.
About the Position
The Project Coordinator will report both to the Living Peace project manager, based in Goma. The coordinator will also work in partnership with the other provincial coordinator, other project staff, and staff from partner NGOs. Salary is between 28,000 Euros and 31,500 Euros per annum depending on salary history and experience. A comprehensive set of benefits is included. Required Qualifications and Skills
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field
A minimum of three years’ experience and a track record of success in program management, and development, supervision/coordination and technical assistance/program delivery in fragile states
Experience in working in emergency settings/conflict areas, preferably in the Great Lakes region
Experience in working and coordinating with government partners (e.g. local authorities and security sector) as well as UN agencies, donors, NGOs
Strong interpersonal, intercultural and communication skills
A minimum of three years’ experience and a track record of success in project and budget management
A track record of success in delivering results, troubleshooting and conducting results-oriented project activities
Excellent French writing and speaking skills as well as fluency in Swahili and English.
Experience in monitoring and evaluation systems, impact evaluation experience preferred
Excellent analytical and written skills
Excellent leadership skills, experience in creating, establishing and negotiating relationships, conflict resolution and problem solving
Strong demonstrated experience in working with local partners and building alliances and networks with various stakeholders
Ability to handle pressure and stress, ability to improvise, adapt and flexibility.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge and experience in the field of gender equality, trauma recovery, and violence prevention in humanitarian settings
Master's degree in a relevant field.
