Organization Description
Most of the world's poor are farmers, representing the largest and most uniform group of poor people in the world. One Acre Fund is a growing NGO in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania that is innovating a new way of helping farm families to achieve their full potential. Instead of giving handouts, One Acre Fund invests in farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income. We provide farmers with a "market bundle" that includes education, finance, seed and fertilizer, and market access. Our program is proven impactful – every year, we weigh thousands of harvests and measure 50-100% average gain in farm income per acre. We have laser-like focus on generating better lives for the people that we serve.
We are growing quickly. In eight years, we have grown to serve 180,000 farm families with more than 2000 full-time field staff. Our approach has won widespread validation, winning grants from The MasterCard Foundation and Gates Foundation. Website: www.oneacrefund.org. Job Description
As One Acre Fund’s client base grows, so does the amount and diversity of farm inputs and other products it needs to deliver. In the coming years, One Acre Fund will deliver roughly 15,000-30,000 metric tons of products to farmers across East Africa. The East Africa Logistics Manager will be the overall lead for this core aspect of our business, managing the physical and technical business processes required to successfully and efficiently deliver these products.
As part of successfully managing the delivery of life-changing farm inputs, the East Africa Logistics Manager will be responsible for building, growing, and developing an international logistics team spread across at least four countries in East Africa. This will include, at a minimum, the management of four in-country logistics leads in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania; several dozen additional permanent staff across those countries; as well as a small army of several hundred temporary casual laborers spread across various loading sites, warehouses, transport points, and headquarters.
In order to achieve its scale goals and continue to deliver to its 200,000+ last-mile clients, One Acre Fund will need an East Africa Logistics Manager who can take us to the next level in the following areas:
· Developing a world-class team of logistics associates.
· Storage and quality control protocols.
· Data and inventory management systems.
· Fraud and shrinkage prevention.
· Supply chain management from port to warehouse to farmer.
· Warehouse receipting protocols.
· Technology integration with One Acre Fund’s customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
· Input distribution scheduling and loading orders.
· Fleet management.
· New projects, such as installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance in warehouses or researching potential cold chain ability for One Acre Fund.
· Research and benchmarking on industry best practices.
One Acre Fund’s East Africa Logistics Manager will become the leader of a logistical operation that is rapidly growing in scope, complexity, human impact, reaching roughly half a million rural smallholder farmers within the next four years.
