Alliance of International Doctors (AID) is an independent international NGO implementing medical projects worldwide to help alleviate suffering in regions affected by disasters or underdevelopment regardless of their religion, ethnicity, or nationality.The scope of our work includes emergency medical relief, preventive and long-lasting health services, health education, and psychological rehabilitation.
This programme is a part of Africa Cataract Project of IHH Humanitarian Relief Organization which aims to conduct 100,000 cataract surgeries in Africa, 80,000 of which has been completed in 11 African countries. An ophthalmology department has been established Lamorna Hospital of Abdou Moumouni University for the project, which targets to perform 30,000 free-of-charge cataract surgeries in five years and to transfer skills to the local personnel. The department is going to be handed over to the Nigerian authorities at the end of the project.
Project Title:Africa Cataract Project
Duration: Six months with possible extension
Expected starting date: As soon as possible
Qualifications/Requirements:
· Basic Medical Degree (e.g. MBBS, MD, MBCh, etc) and Residency in Ophthalmology
· Over 3 years at Ophthalmologist level and experience in conducting at least 200 cataract surgeries;
· Ability to work with people from different ethnic, religious and other backgrounds and persuasions;
· Ability to work under potentially stressful circumstances, professionally and privately;
· Comfortable with traveling to and spending time with local communities.
· Able to perform cataract operations, both Phaco and ECCE
Condition of Service:
Monthly salary: 3000 USD + 2 USD per surgery
Travel expenses: 1 return trip - airlines identified by the organization
Accommodation + Food + Transportation: Yes
