OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

Under the overall guidance of the Senior Medical Coordinator, the direct supervision of the ETU Medical Coordinator and technical guidance of the Head of the Mental Health, Psychosocial Response and Intercultural Communication Section in Geneva, the incumbent will be responsible and accountable for effective supervision, monitoring, coordination and timely implementation of overall psychosocial support activities in Ebola Treatment Units (ETU) operations.

Safety:

· The Psychosocial Support Coordinator is aware of the risks involved in working in the ETU.

· The Psychosocial Support Coordinator follows all regulations concerning infection control and protective measures.

Non-adherence to the safety regulations can result in immediate dismissal.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

· Oversee the psychosocial support activities within the ETUs;

· Assess and advise on the mental health and psychosocial support needs within the ETUs;

· Provide psychosocial support and counselling to patients, relatives and community members within the ETUs;

· Develop and implement effective mechanism standard operating procedures (SOPs) to provide psychosocial support and counselling to patients and community members within the ETUs;

· Support psychosocial specialists and social workers working within ETUs;

· Coordinate with Senior Medical Coordinator, Chief Medical Officers, Occupational Health Specialist and respective IOM unit team leaders to ensure that psychosocial support and counselling are provided within the ETUs;

· Monitor and analyze ETU psychosocial activities to increased effectiveness, identify need and recommend solutions;

· Provide periodic technical updates and documentation/ dissemination of best practice materials in close coordination with IOM Liberia team, DRD, DOE, and MHD at Headquarters as appropriate;

· Contribute to regular reporting on project achievements, problems encountered, pertinent developments, and strategic needs, as well as for donors and partner agencies; and,

· Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Education

Master’s degree psychology and/or counselling from an accredited academic institution.

Work Experience

· A minimum of 5 years of experience in managing psychosocial support programs in emergencies.

· At least 3 years of experience in working with government and/or at international agencies; including conceptualisation, analysis and implementation of programme; and resource mobilization. Knowledge of structures and functions of national and international health agencies, donors and organizations.

· A minimum of 3 years of experience working with HIV-AIDS related cases an advantage.

· Experience in humanitarian crisis, natural disasters, infectious diseases and resource poor settings is beneficial

· Supports adequate levels of information sharing between internal units, cluster partners, IOM and other emergency response actors;

· Makes correct decisions rapidly based on available information;

· Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in multi-cultural settings.

Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English required.
