DRC Trainee - DR Congo
We are looking for a highly qualifiedTrainee to assist our Head of Base (HoB) in Kitchanga in implementing projects and for the operational management of the Office.
Who are we?
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an International Non-Governmental Organisation that promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world. With the vision that no displaced person must be in want of help to find protection and durable solutions, DRC provides assistance and protection to conflict-affected people in many of the major conflicts in Asia, Africa and Middle East. The assistance can consist of relief and other humanitarian aid, rehabilitation and support to returning home, and the promotion of durable solutions.
DRC is operational in DR Congo since 2009. The overall strategic objectives of the programmes are the saving of lives and to support, protect and promote durable solutions for conflict-affected populations. The country office is located in Goma and there are two sub-bases in Beni (North North-Kivu) and Kitchanga.
About the job
Under the supervision of our HoB in Kitchanga and our Protection Coordinator, you will be responsible for assisting in the implementing DRC projects in the region. You will get to learn the different tasks related to the life of a mission: logistics, administration, finance, security and program development.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Protection:you will assist the team in implementing projects based on Community Protection and Gender Base Violence: working on project planning; analyses of different kind of evaluations conducted in the field; reporting, monitoring missions; training of staff, claim mechanisms and context analysis. You will take part to coordination meetings and thematic meetings held in Kitchanga. This will give you a good understanding of the humanitarian coordination and the system of clusters. You will also support our humanitarian accountability plan, especially in the implementation of a claim mechanism for our beneficiaries.
- Emergency evaluations: you will support our Emergency Coordinator in the Kitchanga region to conduct rapid or emergency assessments in the field.
- Field Office: you will support the HoB on the management of the office and act as Interim HoB during short period of time.
- Other: You will also receive other tasks to support the Mission. Some of your tasks listed above might change if necessary depending on the evolution of the context and the needs.
About you
To be successful in this role you must have:
Required qualifications
- A Master degree in Social Science, development studies or equivalent
- At least 6 months experience working with an international NGO in a developing country
- Fluent in French and English
- High level of personal integrity, commitment and professional responsibility
- Excellent communication skills
- Team player with strong leadership skills
- Willingness and ability to work in a difficult environment
- Ability to work independently in a multicultural environment
Desirable qualifications
Ideally, you will also have:
- Experience of working in Africa, preferably in DR Congo
- Understanding of gender and protection
We offer
An interesting job in one of the leading international NGO. The successful applicant will be offered a 6 months contract. You must be available to start working as soon as possible and be willing and able to work in Kitchanga and Goma, DR Congo.
