Brief description of Nutrition Programme in South Sudan
South Sudan is confronted with high burden of undernutrition with estimated one third of children 6 to 59 months old wasted. Other challenges include high disease burden, depleting food security situation as well as suboptimal leaving conditions for most rural communities. In support of the Government of South Sudan to address these challenges, WFP collaborates with both local and international NGOs as well as UN agencies to implement nutrition support interventions to affected communities under two projects, PRRO and EMOP. The interventions include blanket supplementary feeding and targeted supplementary feeding for prevention/reduction and treatment of acute malnutrition respectively. In addition, WFP provides nutrition support to people on HIV/AIDS, TB and Kala-zar treatment programmes. WFP also provides technical support to Government on health and nutrition related issues.
