CMMB is a leading faith-based NGO focused exclusively on global healthcare for the world’s poor, by building healthy, sustainable communities through community engagement and partnerships. Building around a new CHAMPS (CHildren And Mother PartnershipS) model, CMMB will work at both community and clinical levels in these targeted communities to strengthen health services and address the key causes of maternal and child death. CMMB implements healthcare programs that build the capacity of local health systems to provide quality services, without discrimination, to people in need around the world. *The prefer basic language skills are Spanish for Peru, French and/or Haitian Creole for Haiti, Arabic for South Sudan, and Swahili for Kenya.
The following are our Medical Volunteer opportunities:
Medical Doctor - Time Commitment 6 months - 1 year
Overview
Volunteer provides support for partner medical facilities and CHAMP locations in resource-poor rural areas in Kenya, South Sudan, Zambia, Haiti and Peru.
Duties
· Collect, record and maintain patient information, such as medical histories, reports and examinations
· Provide care for women and children during prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods
· Administer health programs for prevention and treatment of injury or illness
· Advise patients and community members concerning diet, hygiene and disease prevention
Education
· Medical Degree from an accredited school of medicine
· Current license to practice medicine and eligibility for board certification
Experience
· Knowledge of professional and ethical standard of health care delivery and practice
· Capacity to administer treatment to patients while dealing with them in a sympathetic and tactful manner
· Ability and willingness to provide guidance to medical staff
Medical Personnel - Time Commitment 1 year - 2 years
Overview
Volunteer provides support for partner medical facilities and CHAMP locations in resource-poor rural areas in Kenya, South Sudan, Zambia, Haiti and Peru.
Duties
· Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans
· Instruct patients and families on topics such as health education, disease prevention, childbirth and develop health improvement programs
· Perform physical examinations, make tentative diagnoses
· Participate in training and instruction of students, auxiliary workers and community members
Education
· Degree from an accredited school of Nursing and possession of a valid Registered Nurse License. OR Degree from an accredited university or college with a valid License in either Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy
Experience
· Capacity to administer treatment to patients while dealing with them in a sympathetic and tactful manner
· Ability to recognize and interpret symptoms
· Ability and willingness to provide guidance to other nurses on staff
Health Education and Awareness - Time Commitment 1 year
Overview
Volunteer work directly with the Country Offices (Kenya, South Sudan, Zambia, Haiti and Peru) on various projects within the community setting.
Duties
· Collaborate with health specialists and civic groups to determine community health needs and co-develop need based goals
· Coordinate health needs assessments and other surveys
· Distribute health education materials, including reports, bulletins and visual aids
· Maintain health education libraries to provide resources for staff and community members
Education
· High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required
· Completion of two or more years of college in a community or public health related field preferred
· Community Health Worker Certification preferred
Experience
· One year of experience in health care environment or community involvement
· Knowledge of professional and ethical standard of health care delivery and practice
· Familiarity and interested in global health issues, especially maternal and child health issues
