OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

Under the direct guidance and supervision of the ETU Chief Nurse and in coordination with the ETU Physician, the incumbent will be responsible and accountable for effective supervision, monitoring, coordination and timely implementation of all in-patient clinical management and infection control practices to ensure effective management of Ebola Treatment Units (ETU) operations.

Safety:

· The ETU Nurse is aware of the risks involved in working in the ETU.

· The ETU Nurse follows all regulations concerning infection control and protective measures.

Non-adherence to the safety regulations can result in immediate dismissal

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

· Under the guidance of the ETU Physician and the Chief Nurse, oversee the implementation of triage and overall nursing care at the appointed Ebola Treatment Unit.

· Ensure the quality of nursing care provided to patients from triage to patient care and case management through strict implementation of standard operating procedures and treatment guidelines.

· Work closely with the appropriate infection prevention and control unit of the ETU, and provide regular updates to the Chief Nurse on all nursing care matters.

· Maintain age and sex-disaggregated record of patients. (age ranges: 0-5 years; 6-17 years; 18-59 years; over 60 years) including safe keeping of relevant documents and ensure medical confidentiality and data protection.

· Report any identified gap, disrespect of procedures and consigns to the Chief Nurse, to support the adoption of corrective measures.

· Other duties that may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Education

Degree in Nursing from an internationally accepted institution, with recognized clinical training.

Work Experience

A minimum of 4 years’ nursing experience, preferably in infectious disease wards, Intensive Care Units (ICU) or other departments applying strict adherence to protocols and bio-safety control measures. Staff management, organizational skills and leadership experience required. Experience in humanitarian crisis, natural disasters, infectious diseases management and resource poor settings is beneficial.

Excellent communication skills; demonstrated management skills, monitoring skills, ability to effectively lead a team; ability to implement procedures effectively in a rapidly changing environment; ability to make effective decisions under pressure; ability to work effectively and harmoniously a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural health care team.

Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English.
