OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

Under the direct guidance and supervision of the ETU Medical Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible and accountable for effective supervision, monitoring, coordination and timely implementation of all in-patient clinical management and infection control practices to ensure effective management of Ebola Treatment Units (ETU) operations.

Safety:

· The ETU Physician is aware of the risks involved in working in the ETU.

· The ETU Physician follows all regulations concerning infection control and protective measures.

Non-adherence to the safety regulations can result in immediate dismissal

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

· Guided by the ETU Medical Coordinator and consistently with the assignment to specific clinical duties, the incumbent will supervise and implement triage procedures, admit patients to specific in-patient wards, provide and administer care, supervise case confirmation, identify and manage EVD and non-EVD cases, refer cases to other health facilities as appropriate, issue death certificate as requested, propose discharge of cured patients to the ETU medical team leader.

· Supervise staff, assess their performances, advise on turn-over, dismissal or re-training, assist in the proper implementation of shifts, review and advise on protocols, refer staff, patients and relatives to psycho-social support and other support services, supervise and direct the role of care givers.

· Coordinate with the Infection Control Practitioner and the Chief Nurse and nursing staff all measures of safety to be adopted within the scope of his/her work, and monitor health and well-being of staff.

· Assign tasks, assess performances of health personnel under his/her supervision, amend procedures, alert on IOM management teams shortcoming and incidents, review medical cases as needed.

· Guide the Reception/Data Entry Clerk to provide confidential and age/sex disaggregated medical documentation and confidential patient records and reports as requested.

· Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Education

University Degree in Medicine from an internationally accepted institution, with recognized clinical training;

Work Experience

A minimum of 7 years’ experience in clinical care in hospital settings; Experience in humanitarian crisis, natural disasters, infectious diseases and resource poor settings are advantageous

Key Competencies

Excellent communication skills; demonstrated management skills, monitoring, ability to make effective decisions under time pressure; ability to work effectively and harmoniously a multi-disciplinary health care team.

Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English.
